Cabin Bound

I always love going up to my family cabin. It is such a nice, relaxing getaway. Every Memorial Day Weekend, the Weitzeil side of my family goes up and spends the weekend there. I always look forward to it! I love how it's only an hour away, but it feels like we are completely out of Utah Valley. The mountains and trees are so beautiful up there!

Chad and I drove up late Friday night and stayed until Monday afternoon. It was a much needed getaway! On Saturday morning, my dad taught Chad how to ride a motorcycle. We went down to the parking lot to let him practice. I was surprised how quickly he caught on. He's definitely a natural ;) I followed him around on the four wheeler. I love the motorcycle, but I have crashed a couple of times (I actually have a dent in my shin bone from the foot pedal when the bike fell on me 4 years ago). I still get nervous on it, but I will ride it occasionally. I prefer the four wheeler.

Later that afternoon, we drove to the outlets in Park City. I figured there would be good sales because of Memorial Day. I love shopping, and can never pass up a good deal (I get it from my Grandma Weitzeil, she was a hardcore shopper).

Smith & Moorehouse lake is 5 minutes from our cabin. Chad had never been there, so we decided to stop by. It's so beautiful! We usually swim in it, but it was too cold, so we decided to go on a hike instead. I'm so glad that Chad loves the outdoors like me. We love to hike and be adventurous. I definitely married a keeper :) It was such a great weekend!!

Vampire Weekend

Chad's brother, Brett, gave us two tickets to the Vampire Weekend concert Tuesday night at the Red Butte Gardens up in Salt Lake City. It was probably the best concert I have been too. They were so good live! I love going to outdoor concerts. I am so excited for summer to come so we can go to more.

After the concert, we went to one of our favorite restaurants, The Pie. It was delicious, just like always. It was such a fun night together! It's always fun to go on dates in the middle of the week :)

We got there later than most people, so we didn't have the best seats, but it was still SO fun!

Sunday Adventures

Our nephew, Josh, fell out of his bedroom window on Saturday while he was watching his dad mow the lawn. He fell 10+ feet and landed in a window well. He was unconscious and was flown to the Primary Children's Hospital. Chad and I drove up on Sunday afternoon to visit him in the pediatric intensive care unit. He fractured his skull and elbow. He is such a trooper for going through such a traumatic experience. He was in the hospital for 3 days and has recovered well.

Every time I go into a hospital, I always get sick. I get nauseous and feel like I am going to pass out (I have passed out twice before). I'm not sure why this always happens to me (it's probably seeing all the equipment and imagining all the procedures), but this time I came prepared with a Coke. We visited with them for 45 minutes.

Since we were in Salt Lake, we decided to go up to This is the Place Heritage Park. Chad had never been there before so we decided to make an adventure out of it. The park is representing when the Pioneers first came to Utah. It was fun to walk around and see the different statues and monuments.

Brunette to Blonde

For the past couple of months, I have been debating whether or not I should dye or cut my hair. Since chopping it off wasn't even an option from Chad, I guess I had to dye it :) I decided to be bold and go blonde! I have never never dyed my hair blonde, so I was very nervous, but I am very happy with how it turned out! I love Suggestions Salon!

Hair doesn't matter, right?

Well, today is the day I have anxiously been waiting for... my dermatologist appointment. I have been so curious about my hair loss. My dermatologist appointment was quick and straight to the point, that's how all Dr appointments should be. I was in and out of the office in 30 minutes.

After the Dr. took a close look at my head, he concluded that I have Alopecia. Alopecia is an auto immune disease and can be caused by multiple things, and it's impossible to track exactly how I got it. Dr. Edwards asked if there was anything that was really stressful or a change in my my daily life. After a couple minutes of thinking, nothing came to mind. I get stressed over little things, but there was nothing that was huge. I explained a few symptoms I had been experiencing since I switched my birth control and his face lit up like a light bulb. He said it's possible to get Alopecia from birth control. He said I need to immediately stop taking that brand of birth control and switch to the old brand that I was on.

In order for the hair to grow back, I need to have steroid shots into that bald spot. I got 3 shots today, and I need to go back in a month to get more, and continue going back until the hair is fully grown. Dr. Edwards said I will have Alopecia my entire life, and hair is more likely to fall out when I get stressed or my hormones change (especially pregnancy). I am hoping it will never get to the point where I lose all of my hair. If only small patches fall out, I will be very grateful. I am thankful it's Alopecia and not a  life threatening disease. Hair doesn't even matter, right? That's what I keep telling myself, anyways :)

Hair Loss

At the beginning of March, I woke up and found a patch of hair missing (about the size of a dime) just above my forehead. I was in complete shock. I had no idea how that much hair could've come out without me noticing. I thought it was extremely strange, but I didn't worry about it because I knew it would just grow back.

It has now been two months, and the patch of hair still hasn't started to grow back at all. After 2 months, you would think you would be able to see at least a little hair growth, but there was nothing. I looked up my symptoms online and decided I should probably see my Dr. just to be safe.

After checking out my head, the Dr. said it's most likely Alopecia (a condition in which hair is lost from some or all areas of the body, especially on the scalp), but there is a chance it could be a fungus infection. He referred me to a dermatologist to have a biopsy done to determine exactly what it is.

My appointment is scheduled for May 20 with the dermatologist to get a biopsy. I am really anxious to get the results back. It makes me sad to think that that patch of hair may never grow back, and it may possibly spread and cause more hair loss. I am crossing my fingers that it's just a fungus infection so I can keep my hair. Wish me luck!

Happy Mothers Day

Last Sunday was Mother's Day. I am the luckiest girl in the world to have my amazing mom! She does so much for me and my family. I look up to her so much and hope that I can grow up to be just like her. She has the most selfless personality and is always thinking about others. She is so caring and loving towards everyone. I am so grateful to call her my mom. I love you mom!

We had the opportunity to Skype with Sean (my youngest brother), who is currently serving in the Philippines, Angeles mission. He said the language is really tough, but he enjoys being out there. I have missed him so much, but I am so grateful for him and his willingness to serve the Lord.

1st Dog Show

We had the opportunity to enter Bruno into a dog show. When we got Bruno, Chad and I decided we wanted to get him into dog shows so he can become a champion. We decided we would go to this dog show to learn how and what we need to train him.

The show was up at the Legacy Events Center in Farmington, UT in a big field outside. Two of my brother -in-laws, Shane and Garrett, and their kids, came up as well. It was suposed to start at 11 am, but didn't end up starting until almost 1:30 pm.

Our nephew, Kale, showed Bruno in the junior handling class. He did a great job handling him for his first time. He took 3rd place!

There was a big gap in between contests, so we found some shade on the grass to relax. It was so hot outside that we had to keep dumping water on Bruno so he wouldn't get heat stroke. One of the dog at the competition almost died from it. He was panting so hard and couldn't cool down. The owners rushed him to a faucet and laid him in water. He poured ice on him to try and cool him down. A lot of people were surrounding them to see what was happening. It was sad to see the dog like that. Luckily, he was able to cool down and he ended up being alright.

Chad handled him in 6-9 month old competition. He did such a good job. We had never trained Bruno to stack (how the dogs have to stand in front of the judges), but he did just as well as the other dogs. I wasn't expecting Bruno to place, since it was our first show and we didn't really know what we were doing, but he took 2nd! We were so proud! We are excited to enter him into more dog shows in the future!

My Troubled Tooth

In July 2010, I was eating a roll one morning for breakfast before a run, and as I was chewing, my back molar crumbled to pieces. In shock, I spit it out into my hands and couldn't believe what had just happened. As I looked in the mirror, my tooth was completely gone. I immediately got into my dentist to get it fixed.

I had a cavity that never got filled, so it eventually killed my tooth. In order to fix my problem, my dentist had to do a root canal and put a crown in. It was not an enjoyable day at the dentist!

Ever since I had my crown put in three years ago, my tooth has always been super sensitive to cold water, and everything I chew. I would go into the dentist every couple of months to try and fix the problem, but nothing ever fixed my problem. My dentist decided to replace the crown and see if that makes a difference. As he was taking off the crown (which normally would be really hard to take off since it is cemented into your mouth), it came off really easily! Every time I would drink cold water or chew anything, it would go through the crack and hit my nerves, which explains why it was so painful for me.

The dentist cemented my temporary crown on, which sealed up the crack. It made such a difference! The next day at work, I was chewing gum and my crown came out. I couldn't believe it could come out that easily. Notice that I am almost missing my entire back right molar (luckily, the entire crown didn't come out).

After a quick appointment at the dentist, my tooth was fixed. My tooth no longer has any sensitivity or pain. It may not seem like a big deal to most people, but I haven't had this feeling in three years! It is so nice to be able to brush my teeth and eat food without pain. I am hoping the crown will stay in until I get my permanent crown put in. Wish me luck!

NCAA Champions

Last Saturday, Chad and I went to the BYU Rugby game. They played an intense game against Cal. Neither of us had been to a rugby game before, but we actually enjoyed it a lot. It amazed me how they can tackle each other, like in football, but they don't wear any helmets and hardly any padding. The score was close the entire game. With the score tied and no time left on the clock, BYU scored and won the national championship! It was so fun to be there and celebrate with them!

Hilary and Andrew's Wedding

One of Chad's friends/coworker, Andrew, got married this last Saturday. We were invited to attend their wedding dinner that night at Sleepy Ridge Golf Course. The dinner was really good! We had pork, potatoes, rolls and salad. After dinner and a few speeches, there was a dance party. It was a crazy dance, but it was fun! It made us really hyper! They are such a cute couple, I'm so excited for them to start their adventures as a newlywed couple.

After the reception, we decided to make a fire in our fire pit. We stopped at the store to pick up s'more supplies. On our way home, we saw Michael's (my brother) car parked in front of my parent's house. They live in Ogden so we don't see them that often. We decided to stop and say hi. We decided to do the fire at my parent's house with my nieces. Luckily we live so close to them, so Chad was able to run home and grab the pit. It was so fun to be with them. I love my family!

The Pie

We had such a fun date night with the Duffy's on Friday night. They picked us up after work and we headed up to The Pie in Sandy. It was super busy (like always), but it's definitely worth the wait. Their pizza is AMAZING! If you haven't tried it, you need to! It's that good!

After pizza, we decided to go up to City Creek Center in SLC. The guys dropped Melissa and I off at H&M. I love shopping, but surprisingly, neither of us had any luck, so we didn't stay long. We decided to ditch the mall and go get some gelato. There is a little restaurant that sells the best gelato I've ever had. I usually prefer ice cream over gelato, but this restaurant almost made me change my mind.

On our way home we stopped at a Red Box and picked up "Red Dawn" and headed back to our house. Of course, I slept through the entire movie. I have the hardest time staying awake during movies (especially when it's 1 am). So I can't give my opinion on the movie, but I'm sure it's good since it was Chad's 3rd time seeing it!

Since I got a good 2 hour nap in, I was wide awake until 4 am. I haven't stayed awake that late in a long time! Chad and I decided to catch up on one of our favorite TV shows, Family Feud. It was a great night :)
