Happy Birthday, Chad!

Yesterday was Chad's birthday! We slept in, ate Costa Vida for lunch, I surprised him with Daylight Donuts at his work, ordered Thai Drift for dinner, had Cravings Cupcakes for dessert, and spent the evening hanging out at home in a food coma. Obviously, it was a great day surrounded by food and we wouldn't want it any other way.

Happy 28th birthday, Chad! You're the best thing that's ever happened to me and I am so thankful everyday that I have you. You're my better half and I am the luckiest girl in the world to have you. You never cease to amaze me with your hard work and dedication for our little family. You mean the world to me and am so grateful you're mine for eternity. Love you lots!

One Month Update

I can't believe our little baby is one month old! Where does the time go? I wish I could press a pause button on life and play it in slow motion. Life has been SO fun with Duke here and has brought so much happiness into our lives!!

Clothing: Newborn

Bedtime: Between 11:00 - 11:30 pm

Eating:
Duke is only eating breastmilk and I plan on keeping it that way. It's healthier for him, and helps me burn extra calories... plus it's great bonding time! He has started making the cutest cooing noises while he eats. It may just be the cutest thing. He eats about every 2 hours during the day, and about every 3 hours during the night. He has gotten in the habit of eating around 2:45 am, 5 am, and 8 am. Getting up during the middle of the night isn't that bad when you have two handsome faces to stare at ;)

Sleeping:
In order to get him to sleep well at night, I do a little routine to help make him sleepy. I change his diaper, give him a bath (about every other day so it doesn't dry out his skin), change him into pajamas, and do about 10 minutes of tummy time. After that routine, he is usually screaming and is ready to eat. He usually falls asleep while I'm feeding him so it's a good transition to put him to bed.

Development:
He is keeping his eyes open more often and is starting to focus, which is so fun! I got him to smile at me the other day, and my heart melted.

I had heard you aren't supposed to clip baby's fingernails until after they're 3 weeks old, so I was finally able to cut those bad boys. They were seriously so long and were like razor blades every time he touched his face. Now he can wear shirts without the little mittens, which means I get to play with his cute little fingers, which I weirdly have an obsession for.

Likes:
  • Snuggling and sleeping on my chest. It may just be my favorite thing. I seriously cuddle him all day everyday
  • Being tightly swaddled in his blanket
  • Sleeping in his swing with the vibrator on
  • Going on walks in his stroller
  • Peeing on mom every diaper change
Dislikes:
  • Tummy time. More like scream time.

New This Month:
We made our first big outing (besides Dr. appointments) to my parents house. It was so fun! I can't wait till I can take him with me everywhere!

Mommy Update:
  • It has been such a fun transition into motherhood.  I seriously LOVE being a stay-at-home mom. It has brought me so much more joy than I would've ever imagined and has by far exceeded my expectations.
  • I have lost 30 pounds since I gave birth (thanks to breastfeeding), and have only 3 lbs to go until I am at my pre-pregnancy weight!
  • Anxiously counting down until my 6 week post-partum appointment so I can get the clear to work out. It's been way too long!
  • Trying to keep Mastitis (breast infection + fever) away - I've gotten it twice within the past 2 weeks... boo.
Daddy Update
  • Keeping busy with full-time work and school (16 credits!)
  • Dad has magic hands because he can always get Duke's little burps out.
  • Celebrated Dad's big 28th birthday!

We love you Duke and can't imagine life without you! You're the best thing that's ever happened to us!

Newborn Photo Session

My sister, Stephanie, was in town from Idaho when I had Duke. She is a photographer and has never done a newborn session, so we decided it was perfect time for practice! We had such a fun time working with her and loved how the pictures turned out!

PS: Duke was only 4 days old when these were taken and he had jaundice, so that's why he may look a little yellow.

Valentine's Day

I just love Valentine's Day. Who doesn't love a day all about love?! I surprised Chad with breakfast... waffles, strawberries, & cream. So good!!

My dad's birthday was on the 13th, so I decided since I was making him a card, I would make a Valentine's card for Chad. I love my cameo!!

Chad surprised me with lovely flowers, a box of chocolates, and a 1 pound certificate to See's Candies. He definitely knows the way to my heart. I literally can't help myself when it comes to chocolate. As you can tell I already ate like 5 pieces before I took the picture ;)

Instead of going out to dinner, Chad started the tradition last year of making me dinner. It's not worth our time and effort to fight the crowds at restaurants. Plus, Chad's food is WAY better than anything I could order. Seriously though... filet (with a blue cheese, bacon spread), asparagus, potatoes and carrots. The picture doesn't do a justice... it was seriously amazing!

I did a little photo shoot with Duke, and surprised Chad with this cute photo. He absolutely loved it... I mean, how could you not love that little face, and yawn! Ahhhh ;)

Bruno has seriously been so cute with Duke. When we first brought Duke home, Bruno was terrified of him. He wouldn't go anywhere near him. He has recently started to show more interest. Now whenever Duke cries, Bruno runs up to him and gently kisses his face. It may just be the cutest thing. Give it a few months, and I have a feeling they are going to be best pals.

Speaking of Bruno, here's a little clip of our nightly entertainment. Let's just say there is no winning
 tug-of-war with Bruno!

It was a perfect day with my sweetheart. I'm so lucky I get to keep this Valentine of mine forever!
