Valentines DIY

Valentines Day is next week and I don't have a single decoration up! I decided that this weekend was my last chance to decorate. Luckily with my Cameo, making quick and cute decorations is so easy! Here's what I came up with...

Cracked

The scavenger hunt for the iPad began. How do you lose an iPad? Beats me.

Lifted up the couch, couldn't see it. Put down the couch, CRACK.

bummer.

On the bright side, the Olympics started today in Sochi, Russia. You can find Chad, Bruno and I in front of the TV eating our homemade cookie dough milkshakes with a bag of ice on my bloody, achy, stitched up head.

Scar Removal

My parents live on a steep hill in Orem. When I was 3 years old, I had the determination to conquer this hill on my tricycle.

"Don't ride your tricycle down the hill, Melanie, it's too dangerous. Ride in the backyard on the Sport Court", said my Dad.

This warning didn't stop the little rebellious toddler that I was.

A couple hours later, my neighbor found me laying in a puddle of blood on the sidewalk. I had swerved into a corner of a brick mailbox and cut my head deep to the skull. I was rushed to the hospital and had 12 stitches to seal up the 2-inch cut.

18 years later, the scar still bothers me. I almost feel limited to how I can do my hair, I'm just so conscious about the thick, pink scar. Even though it's not that noticeable, I have always wondered what it would be like without it.

A couple weeks ago when I was at the dermatologist getting a steroid shot for my alopecia, Dr. Edwards mentioned how he could fix my scar, practically make it disappear. Days passed and I couldn't stop thinking about it. I finally got the guts to make an appointment.

Today was the day.

Dr. Edwards gave me 15-20 shots to numb the scar. He then proceeded to open the scar, re-stitch and seal it back, with much tighter stitches. The worst part of the whole procedure was the sound of the needle going through my scalp. The noise was so disturbing, it made me nauseous. I could feel my vision getting blurry and starting to go black, I knew I was about to pass out. Dr. Edwards quickly laid me down. He finished the procedure with me laying horizontal :)

I'm definitely glad the procedure is over, but I'm even more excited to see the final product! Thank you Dr. Edwards!

Jazz vs. Raptors

Right after work, Chad decided it would be fun to head up to the Jazz game in SLC. Since it was a spur the moment thing, we were rushing to get ready. Chad reached into a drawer and his razor sliced a chunk of skin off. I feel like we always get hurt when we are in a hurry. Does this ever happen to anyone else?!

With blood gushing everywhere, wads of tissue on his finger, and dozens of bandaids, we jumped in the car and made our way to the Energy Solutions Arena.

It has been approximately 11 weeks since we have been to a Jazz game (I know that thanks to my Instagram), so it felt good to be back in our stomping grounds. We love Jazz games. We used to go all the time, I guess you could say we are slowing down with age. I mean, Chad turns 27 this month! Crazy!

It was a great night with the Mr. I always love our spontaneous date nights.

Super Bowl Sunday

Super Bowl Sunday was a success. Happy vibes were at the DeVore home - Seahawks kicked the Bronco's butt! It was a fun night with great friends, amazing food, and adorable baby Harvey.

Breakfast of Champions

One of my favorite meals to cook is Breakfast. Since Chad and I have to be to work so early in the morning, I'm always grabbing a slim fast as I'm running out the door. Sunday is the only day I have to make a homemade breakfast, and I have started taking advantage of that.

This is one of my absolute favorite buttermilk pancake recipes, and it's so simple!

Buttermilk Pancakes
2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2 eggs, unbeaten
2 c. buttermilk
1/4 c. butter, melted

Mix all ingredients together. Can be used for pancaked or waffles.

If you're a chocolate lover like Chad and I, you will die for chocolate pancakes. It's like eating cookies for breakfast… so delicious!

Chocolate Pancakes
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 c. cocoa
2 eggs
1 c. milk
1/4 c. butter, melted
1/2 c. milk chocolate chips

Mix all ingredients, spoon onto hot pancake griddle. Top with powdered sugar and whipping cream.

Speaking of chocolate, every time we go to the mall, we HAVE to get a chocolate, or two, at See's Candies. It has been a fun little tradition that we have. We have become quite the chocolate connoisseurs.

Burgers and Basketball

Lately, our date nights have consisted of burgers and basketball games. I'm not complaining, I mean, who doesn't love a juicy pastrami cheeseburger from Supreme Burger?!
Although it doesn't help my New Years resolution to a "slimmer, healthier body", there are some nights that I can't help but crave the salty fries and tangy fry sauce.

On the plus side, BYU kicked Pacific's butt and are looking fresher than ever.
