My parents live on a steep hill in Orem. When I was 3 years old, I had the determination to conquer this hill on my tricycle.
"Don't ride your tricycle down the hill, Melanie, it's too dangerous. Ride in the backyard on the Sport Court", said my Dad.
This warning didn't stop the little rebellious toddler that I was.
A couple hours later, my neighbor found me laying in a puddle of blood on the sidewalk. I had swerved into a corner of a brick mailbox and cut my head deep to the skull. I was rushed to the hospital and had 12 stitches to seal up the 2-inch cut.
18 years later, the scar still bothers me. I almost feel limited to how I can do my hair, I'm just so conscious about the thick, pink scar. Even though it's not that noticeable, I have always wondered what it would be like without it.
A couple weeks ago when I was at the dermatologist getting a steroid shot for my alopecia, Dr. Edwards mentioned how he could fix my scar, practically make it disappear. Days passed and I couldn't stop thinking about it. I finally got the guts to make an appointment.
Today was the day.
Dr. Edwards gave me 15-20 shots to numb the scar. He then proceeded to open the scar, re-stitch and seal it back, with much tighter stitches. The worst part of the whole procedure was the sound of the needle going through my scalp. The noise was so disturbing, it made me nauseous. I could feel my vision getting blurry and starting to go black, I knew I was about to pass out. Dr. Edwards quickly laid me down. He finished the procedure with me laying horizontal :)
I'm definitely glad the procedure is over, but I'm even more excited to see the final product! Thank you Dr. Edwards!
