Duke's 1st Birthday!

For Duke's 1st birthday, we threw a little baseball bash!
Anxiously waiting for the guests to arrive...

I found this jersey for $1.25! I honestly paid with pocket change. That's cheaper than a dirty Dr. Pepper ;) It's regularly $12, but I had a $10 off coupon + 15% off. Can't pass up a deal like that!

I was expecting Duke to be shoving his mouth full of cake, since he's never had sugar before, but boy was I wrong. First, he was lightly stroking the frosting, which then led to "massaging" the cake. It went on for about 3 minutes, and it was so funny to watch him squish the cake in between his little pudgy fingers.

Surprisingly, once he tasted the cake, he started screaming and just wanted to be taken out of the high chair. I don't know if all the attention was intimidating, but pretty sure that's the first time I've seen any child turn away cake!

My pretty sisters and mama!

It was such a great day with our families! Duke has been our greatest blessing and we are so grateful for the joy he brings into our family. Happy 1st birthday, Duke!

DIY Baby Birthday Banner

For Duke's 1st birthday party, one of the decorations I knew I had to make was this cute little banner. I saw the idea on Pinterest and figured it would be pretty easy to re-create, and it was!

What you'll need:
  • 7-8 baby faces printed on cardstock
  • patterned card stock for party hats
  • double-stick tape
  • scissors
  • tissue paper
  • ribbon
I found my favorite pictures of Duke (the more expressions the better), and changed the color to black & white. I blew up the picture so his face filled almost a whole 8 x 11 sheet of paper. Cut out just the head.

I used my Sillouette to cut out the party hats, only because I am horrible at cutting a straight line, but you could easily just do it with scissors.

I placed the hat on the picture and trimmed around it, so parts of his head weren't sticking out.

To make the fringe for the party hats, cut out rectangles of different colored tissue paper (about 2" wide x 4" long, depending on the size of the party hats).
Stack 3 pieces of tissue paper on top of each other and cut about 1/2 inch towards the center on both sides to create fringe.

Put double-sided tape along the bottom of the party hat.

Now grab each end of the fringed tissue paper and twist it a few times before pressing to the tape. Fluff up the fringe.

Once all the faces have been taped and fringed, it's time for the ribbon. I used 2 rows of ribbon for better support, and just taped it to the back of each picture.

& there you have it. Easy as pie!
